Radiologic Technology Student Is State Winner of Breaking Traditions Award

IJʿ student Robert Smith recently received the statewide Breaking Traditions Award for his success as a nontraditional student in the College’s Radiologic Technology program. The awards, sponsored by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), provide an opportunity for students, career-technical programs, educators, and schools to receive recognition and statewide acknowledgment for their achievements related to nontraditional careers.

IJʿ and CMU Expand Articulation Agreement

A longstanding articulation agreement between Central Methodist University (CMU) and IJʿ has been expanded to provide additional opportunities for local students to pursue a bachelor’s degree in a variety of fields.

The partnership provides an educational pathway for students that leads to further degree attainment and success.By starting their education at a community college, students save money with IJʿ’s reduced tuition costs, while ultimately earning a bachelor’s degree as if they attended all four years at CMU.

Automotive Tech Program Reaccredited by ASE

The IJʿ Automotive Technology program has received full reaccreditation by the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation through 2027.

The program underwent a rigorous evaluation using nationally accepted standards of excellence in instruction, facilities, and equipment. ASE program accreditation provides external verification of the quality of the IJʿ Automotive Technology program.

According to ASE Education Foundation President Michael Coley, “We commend IJʿ and your staff for maintaining program standards and continuing to meet industry requirements. The explosion in automotive technology makes your high-quality automotive training program more valuable than ever.”

"Beyond Boundaries” Opens Door to More Degree Options

Students in the IJʿ, East Central College, and Mineral Area College districts now have access to more degree options without additional costs.

That’s thanks to a new “Beyond Boundaries” partnership which allows for students in those neighboring districts to work toward a degree in select programs at in-district tuition costs. The agreement — signed during Community College Month — is a partnership through the Missouri Community College Association (MCCA). Beyond Boundaries will go into effect this fall.

PTA Grad Receives Prestigious Clinical Teaching Award

Bryan Fitzpatrick, a 2016 graduate of the IJʿ Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program, was recently awarded the 2021 Kathy Johnson Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award by the Central ACCE Consortium.

An employee at Mercy Hospital Jefferson, he was presented the award in front of his family, co-workers, students, hospital administrators and supervisors, and IJʿ PTA program faculty/leadership.

After his daughter went to college to become a physical therapist, Bryan decided to return to school and join her in the profession as a PTA. He joined IJʿ’s third cohort of students and once he graduated and had a year of experience, Bryan began to accept students and share his experience in the inpatient setting.
