How To Apply

Steps to Apply

In order to take early college courses, students must:

1.  Contact their high school guidance counselor to discuss options and eligibility for early college courses.

  • Dual Credit refers to college level courses that are taught by high school instructors at the high school. Student are earning both high school and college level credit. Prerequisites and course content are the same as if the course took place at the °Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø campus. Course offerings vary among Jefferson County high schools. If a high school offers a °Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø Dual Credit course, students can obtain an application from their high school guidance counselor.

  • Dual Enrollment refers to high school students concurrently enrolled in college level courses taught online or on the °Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø campus. Dual enrolled students may or may not earn high school credit for courses taken at the college campus or online, but they will earn college credit. Typically, coursework is completed outside of high school classes or during a study hall period at the high school. Students interested in Dual Enrollment can obtain an application from their high school guidance counselor.

  • Students interested in a cohort program to complete an associate degree or the 42 hour block of general education will apply with their high school first, then will complete the registration process with °Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø.

  • If you attend a private high school or a public high school outside of Jefferson County, please contact Jaclyn Birks, Early College Coordinator, at (636) 481-3216 or jbirks@jeffco.edu to discuss steps for enrollment.

  • If you are a homeschooled student, please complete the Dual Enrolled Homeschool Student Application for Admission and complete the steps listed on the form.

2.  Meet the same requirements for placement into courses as those required of regular college-level students.

3.  Fulfill individual grade level requirements.

  • Juniors and seniors must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and obtain written permission from a parent/legal guardian and their principal or counselor.

    • Students with a cumulative GPA between 2.5–2.99 (on a 4.0 scale) may be allowed to take early college courses if they achieve acceptable English, Math, and/or Reading scores on the ACT or ACCUPLACER placement test, or if they complete an alternative means of placement determination. Students can retake placement tests or file an appeal if their test scores do not meet eligibility criteria.

  • Sophomores must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and obtain written permission from a parent/legal guardian and their principal or counselor.

  • Freshmen must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale), must have a composite score at the 90th percentile or above on the ACT or SAT, and obtain written permission from a parent/legal guardian and their principal or counselor.

Students should check with their high school counselors for further details.
