OTA Program at °Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø

The Occupational Therapy Assistant program at °Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø is an Associate of Applied Science Degree Program and consists of:

  • 15-17 credit hours of prerequisite courses
  • 9-12 credit hours of general education courses
  • 49 credit hours of OTA classroom instruction, labs, and fieldwork practicum

The °Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø occupational therapy assistant program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 6116 Executive Boulevard, Suite 200, North Bethesda, MD 20852-4929. ACOTE’s telephone number c/o AOTA is (301) 652-AOTA and its web address is . The °Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø occupational therapy assistant program is currently inactive with ACOTE granting inactive status in 2023.

Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapy assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). In addition, most states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.

“Students must complete Level II fieldwork within 12 months following completion of the didactic portion of the program.â€

Debbie Wolk, MHS, OTR/L has been an occupational therapist for 22 years. She graduated from Maryville University with a Bachelors of Psychology and OT then proceeded to gain her Masters of Health Sciences in OT from the University of Indianapolis. Debbie has worked in various working settings as a practitioner in rural southeast MO including pediatrics, outpatient, hospital-based, geriatrics and management. She served as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator/Assistant Professor for °Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø's OTA Program from 2011-2014 when it was developed and received initial accreditation. She has been a speaker for AOTA's National Conference. Debbie enjoys volunteering within her community for non-profit organizations and spending time with her family.


°Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is now available. This report is required by federal law and contains policy statements and crime statistics for °Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø. The policy statements address °Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, for example, policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses.

Additionally, this report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety, including topics such as: crime prevention, fire safety, °Ä²Ê¿ª½±Íø Campus Police Department enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, and other matters of importance related to security and safety on campus. Also included are crime statistics for three previous calendar years which were reported to have occurred on campus, in or on off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the school, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to the campus.
